It only took us forty minutes to grab what we needed at Walgreens before we headed to his house. I was too afraid Messiah would see me on his cameras and see right through my nervous behavior. I couldn’t risk it.

“It doesn't take that damn long to pee on a stick! You have five minutes and I'm coming in!” I had been sitting on the lid of the toilet seat for so long, my feet were going numb. That prickly needle feeling was settling in as I sat nervously on the seat. I had drunk a whole sixteen ounce bottle of water, so my bladder was good and full, but I was scared. We have grabbed six different tests just to be on the safe side. Well, really, I just needed to justify taking more than one if I didn’t get the answer I needed the first time.

Instead of peeing on all of the sticks individually, I decided to try the cup method. Making sure to clean myself off like they have you do at the doctor’s office. Jayven had given me paper cups, so I decided to split them up. My hands were shaking so bad, I knew I was going to get piss everywhere if I didn’t calm down.

The sooner you take the tests, the better. That’s the pep talk I was trying to give myself. It took me a few tries, but I finally filled both cups then placed three tests in one and the other three in the remaining cup. After I finished using the bathroom, I went ahead and washed my hands. Looking at myself in the mirror, I was terrified. I wasn’t ready for another pregnancy or another baby, for that matter.

I had folded up some napkins on the counter to set the tests on. Those three minutes felt like a lifetime when your life was hanging in the balance. Jayven walked into the room just as I was walking out of the bathroom.

“Did you look?” He inquired. He seemed to be just as anxious as me. All I wanted to do was curl up in a ball and cry.

“No, I’m too scared,” He nodded his head in understanding then headed into the bathroom. I crawled into his bed waiting patiently for him to deliver the news that I knew would turn my world upside down. Jayven cleared his throat as he lifted up the pregnancy tests.

“Listen, before you freak out, just know that you have options. Okay?” His words answered the burning question in my mind before I even saw the results. I was pregnant. He handed me the tests, and I immediately broke down.

“I can’t do this again! I can’t!” I sobbed into the pillow. The devastation I felt in my heart was insurmountable. You could call me dramatic or whatever else, but I was triggered in the worst way by this discovery. My chest felt constricted as my breathing became more labored.

“Cousin, you are about to have a whole panic attack. Baby girl, I need you to breathe.
